Vaamika Island
Kerala, India
BACK
Tasked with reflecting the history of Keralan architecture, this project integrates old and new to stunning effect. Traditional wooden bungalows were purchased and reconstructed on the island. Each has a master bedroom at its heart. Modern extensions provide crisp architectural contrast and house the living and bath spaces.
Water gardens and partial infinity pools connect the architecture with its waterside location. Interiors are designed to reflect the changing moods of the surrounding water, capturing the soft vibration and tranquillity of the area. Woven wicker ceilings and carved wall panels show the best of local craftsmanship, while tinted cement floors and modern furnishings and fittings add contemporary appeal. The effect is both uplifting and calming providing the perfect space to relax and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the “Backwaters” of Kerala.
